Dunblane Hydro Hotel, Scotland

local area guide

You will find Dunblane Hydro a superb location from which to explore some of the finest tourist attractions in Scotland. If a day without too much driving appeals, take a short trip to the Falkirk Wheel. The Falkirk Wheel offers the only rotating boat lift in the world and is a wonderful day out with bikes to hire, an enormous children’s play area, a restaurant and excellent display area as well as the wheel itself to ride on.

Alternatively you can enjoy the numerous walks which surround us.

Great local golf, including nearby championship and famous links courses, abound – check out our golf section for details.

The city of Edinburgh with its famous castle, the glorious Princess Street, superb shopping and numerous free museums is easily reachable in less than an hour by car. The city of Glasgow which is renowned for its excellent shopping and architecture (the Charles Rennie Mackintosh trail is highly recommended) is also under an hour by car.

Stirling, with the Wallace Monument and Stirling Castle (arguably the best in Scotland) is 15 minutes away by car. If you wish a day on the coast you can reach the picturesque beaches of Fife or Rabbie Burns’ country of Ayrshire within an hour or so. The Trossachs, Perth, Loch Lomond, and New Lanark are all within one hour’s drive of the hotel.

Even the ski slopes of Glenshee and Aviemore, the delights of the Isle of Arran or the children’s television town of Balamory (actually Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, of course) are also perfectly reachable in a day trip.

We can also arrange horse riding at nearby stables, a superb classic car or open top convertible for a stunning day’s big country touring - or even you very own skippered luxury boat on Loch Lomond for the day.
